Legal and Ethical

During the creation of this unit i have not took anybodies work and i have created all of the models and materials myself using Blender.

The reason for checks like the Legal and Ethical is to ensure that games follow these guidelines which allows for games to be published an sold.

The legal side of this is to ensure that things are created legally and if not they could be court cases against the accused. Content used in games/Animations have to be created by ones self or if using an others work get consent from the owner.

The Ethical side of this is to ensure that the morals for the creation of something are good and not offensive or insensitive. If a game were to be created which is deemed to be too offensive or too insensitive it could be barred from being published unless changes are made.

Evaluation

If i were to do this unit again there are many thing that i would do differently to complete this unit more efficiently and more effectively.

Schedule:
For this i would be more thorough with my schedule and i would create more charts that would show my progress throughout the whole unit. I think the problem with my current schedule set up is that there is not a lot of information that can be gathered from it which means that its harder for me to follow and its harder for someone to see what I'm doing throughout the course of the unit as there is not a lot of information.

Research:
For the research that i did i chose to do a Walled-like City. I created mood boards and concepts to help inspire my create when i created it. I have also completed some theory about 3D Modelling and Animation as a whole and i have gone in depth with the intricacies of the modelling and animation process. I could of improved this part of the unit by commenting more on my moodboard which would of made it easier for me to understand the ideas i was going for when i look back on it.

3D Modelling:
When creating my model i decided on a city inside a large wall-like rock formation. I created the initial structure that looks look a volcano which a holds a city in the middle. If i had dedicated more time in the beginning i could of created a better structure and a better town in the walled city as it looks basic. If i were to do this again i would give more time to creating the model and giving the city some good textures.

Schedule

This is the burn down chart that accompanies my Unit 68 work, this did not go to plan as the completion of my environment and my fly through video took longer then i would of likes as i was doing another unit alongside this.

The reason for these charts and others like it is to gauge progress throughout weeks during production. Charts like this one set a predicted rate of work throughout the whole unit/production and on certain weeks i would fill is out buy putting a line on how complete i am with this unit.

For this one I started slowly in the first two weeks although in the following weeks i picked it up and finished the unit. The reason for the initial dip in production is the face that i was doing another unit at the same time and that one took priority over this one initial.

Creation

I decided to build a Natural walled city as in a city built inside a large rock formation that would provide protection from the outside.

I started with a cube and enlarged it into the size that i wanted and i subdivided the surface to get lots of Individual Points (Verts) and Individual Lines (Edge) and Squares (Faces). I  manipulated the verts and edges to create sharp pointed formation that mimicked mountainous regions that may be found in a video game. I then created a material to put onto the mountain to give it a better look, i used Cycles Render which allowed me to create intricate materials using many different effects combined together.

When creating this model i used many of Blenders features which helped me create a much better model, i used things like Extrusion, Scaling, Texturing and Modifiers such as Subdivision surface and mirroring. All of these features made it so that i could create a model which looked good and it was not too time consuming to create.

Another thing that i used during the creation of this model was the unique brush tool which helped create a much more natural looking structure then i had already created, this tool raised or lowered the Verts, Edges and Faces of a model wherever you clicked the mouse, this helped speed up the creation process because i did not have to move or extrude individual Verts, Edges or Faces which would of made this build more time consuming.

The creation of the texture used on the model was using using the Node Editor in Cycles Render in Blender. This render option allows me to create much more intricate textures and materials due to the fact that i can mix and match various different material effects such as Voronoi effect and Noise effect, combining these different effects allows me to create what seem to look like detailed textures because the mixer used to blend these effects together have its own effects which lets me make it look how i want it to look.

Theory/Planning

http://benankersunit66.blogspot.co.uk/
This is a moo board created by gathering images based on a "Walled city". The multiple images that i got are a mixture of real list and fantasy art. Each of the walled are large which adds to the seclusion that these cities have.

The reason for mood boards are for inspiration, each of these images are inspiration for my environment and i fell that i can take something from these as i think that i would be able to implement them into my environment.
This is my original mock up for a walled city. This city has different layers in it which symbolizes the wealth difference in the wall, the outer ring of the city is where the commoners live, the inner ring is where the high class and wealthy people live and in the center is where they Royal Family live which is the safest place in the whole city. this city is on the water front so this would allow for trade routes which would increase growth and trust.
